These are just our opinions, but they're based on real experiences and a life spent chasing the Pura Vida lifestyle. We don't pull any punches—there aren't many to pull because just about everywhere rocks here—but we have been scolded and even banned from offering some hotels in our vacation packages for keeping it 100% and prioritizing your authentic surf experience over their bottom line. We're not here to fill vacation rentals for international investors or jack up our beaches at the expense of local families. Yes, we’ve been scolded. But as we say around here, “When they get the paddle out, we just go paddle out!” It’s great to be a surfer! While we want you to visit and surf Costa Rica, real surfers tend to see through the fake crunchy groove of a $500/night resort that pays locals $4 an hour. Anyone up for Guanacaste? Ha! We tend to be positive because we run on Pura Vida, but we want that Pura Vida to thrive, not get built on top of.
